Alberto Vacchi, Chairman and CEO of IMA Group and a University of Bologna Law alumnus, was recently featured in an interview with Corriere della Sera - Economia. During the interview, Vacchi announced a new international expansion move for the IMA Group through the acquisition of the Irish company ProSys Sampling Systems. Based in Cork, the firm specializes in developing sampling systems and isolation technologies specifically for the biopharmaceutical industry.

This operation represents a further step in the growth strategy pursued by IMA, which is founded on expanding technological expertise and strengthening its presence in the most advanced segments of the pharmaceutical sector. The decision to invest through strategic acquisitions reflects the industrial vision promoted by Vacchi, according to which achieving greater scale and forming corporate alliances are now essential conditions for competing in a global economic context characterized by heavy concentration and high levels of technological innovation. Creating strong leadership by joining a European or Italian group operating in the sector represents the ultimate decisive goal.

As one of the most prominent figures in Bologna’s manufacturing industry, Alberto Vacchi has led IMA for several years, consolidating the group's position as a world leader in the production of automatic packaging machines for the pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetic sectors, while remaining an entrepreneur deeply rooted in his home territory.

His career is marked by several prestigious recognitions. He served as a member of the Regional Council of Confindustria Emilia-Romagna and received the 2015 Leonardo Quality Italy Award for IMA’s innovative development and established international presence. In 2018, he was appointed Cavaliere del Lavoro. Furthermore, in 2023, the University of Bologna awarded him an honorary Master’s degree in Management Engineering in recognition of his contributions to innovation, business, and the central role of people within corporate processes and technological change.
